“How to read a Compass?”

Start off with a simple floating needle compass. Stand in the centre of the room, hold it straight and allow the needle to become steady, then look for the Dial, turn it around to bring 00 exactly in line with the red tip pointer, face the direction the needle or 00 is. Now if you out stretch your hands side ways; your right hand will give you east, left hand will point west, the direction you are facing, in front of you is north and behind you is south.

These are the four Cardinal directions.

The entire Dial has 3600 so 22 ½ degrees right and left of 00 is the cone giving you North area.

Similarly the centre 3600 circle can be divided to give you 4 cardinal and 4 sub cardinal directions.Compass

North
North East
East
South East
South
South West
West
North West

The above gives you the 8 directions of a room. Similarly you can stand in the middle of the house some where more or less you feel the center is and get the same directions of your living space.

Note: Sometimes a direction could include parts of different rooms or areas use your judgment to ascertain which area has the major part of that direction.
